Out With The Old, In With The New

Out With The Old, In With The New

Moving to a new city is one of the ultimate opportunities to intentionally design the life you actually want. When everything around you is brand new, you get to choose your routines, your friendships, and your favorite places from scratch.

That is my current reality—and I couldn't be more excited.

When my kids and I packed up and moved to Florida, we left almost everything we owned in storage. The plan was simple: get to the Sunshine State, figure things out, and bring only the essentials. Now that we are finally settled, we have little to nothing, which leaves me wide open room to test a powerful concept: The Law of Vacuum Prosperity.

What is the Law of the Vacuum?

Often called the Law of Vacuum Prosperity, this spiritual and psychological principle states that nature abhors a vacuum. Simply put, if your life is entirely cluttered with things, relationships, or habits that no longer serve you, there is physically and mentally no space for new opportunities to enter.

Here are the core principles behind it:

  • Nature Demands Fulfillment: Any empty space you create will automatically seek to fill itself.

  • Release Precedes Increase: You cannot receive something new while your hands are completely full of the old.

  • The Energy of Completion: Holding onto broken, unused, or unloved items signals a mindset of scarcity and fear.

How I'm Applying It Right Now

I don’t want anything I’ve had before—with one exception: I loved my old living room setup in North Carolina, and I definitely have plans to recreate it. Aside from that, this move is entirely about building a brand-new version of myself and a brand-new reality. Out with the old, in with the fresh start.

To honor that:

  1. The Home Refresh: I am only purchasing two specific items from Amazon: my exact old entertainment stand setup and four matching barstools. The rest of our home will be entirely thrifted. I am so excited to see what treasures find us! (I'll be documenting all my thrift finds on Openly Curated, so make sure to tune in!)

  2. The Empty Calendar: My calendar for August is completely empty. Peak season is winding down, and I haven’t gone out of my way to book extra cleans. I want to focus less on my cleaning business, pour more energy into creating passive income within my brand, and clear out space to actually enjoy life.

  3. The Energy Shift: I cut ties with negative, stagnant relationships a long time ago. Now, I am ready to surround myself with like-minded people who share my passions.

  4. The Financial Flow: I’ve been spending money and feeling good about it, knowing that money is an abundant resource and more is always on its way back to me.

Your Blueprint: What to Do When You Move to a New City

If you’re planning a fresh start of your own, or just want to explore your current surroundings with fresh eyes, here is your ultimate guide to planting roots in a new town:

1. Explore Your New Area

  • Visit every coffee shop within a 15–20 minute radius.

  • Find your go-to beach, park, or walking trail.

  • Try one new local restaurant each week.

  • Get a library card.

  • Check out local farmers markets and weekend festivals.

  • Learn the quickest routes to the places you visit most often.

2. Meet New People

  • Join local Facebook and community groups.

  • Attend church events if community and faith are important to you.

  • Join a local gym or fitness class.

  • Find a book club or local coworking meetup.

  • Volunteer for a cause you deeply care about.

  • Introduce yourself to your neighbors!

3. Create Grounding Routines

  • Pick one favorite coffee shop to work from.

  • Take a weekly sunrise or sunset walk.

  • Dedicate one day a week to exploring somewhere new.

  • Establish a realistic cleaning and laundry schedule.

  • Locate your favorite grocery store.

4. Map Out Your Essentials

  • Find your nearest grocery store, pharmacy, urgent care, dentist, vet (if you have pets), local bank branch, and hair salon.

5. Start a “New City Bucket List”

Write down 50 things you’d love to experience. Here are a few to get you started:

  • Watch the sunrise at the beach.

  • Find the absolute best tacos in town.

  • Visit every local coffee shop.

  • Go kayaking.

  • Take your kids on a surprise picnic.

  • Find the ultimate sunset spot.

  • Visit local museums and try a brand-new hobby.

6. Capture the Memories

Take photos of your first day in your new home, your favorite morning coffee runs, beautiful local sunsets, and everyday moments of joy with your family.

Give Yourself Grace

Remember, it usually takes several months before a new city genuinely starts to feel like home. There might be lonely days, but those quiet moments often arrive right before you build a strong, beautiful community.

For me, it comes down to a simple weekly rhythm: exploring one new place, meeting one new person, and trying one new experience.

Here’s to clearing out the old, leaving space for the universe to work its magic, and building a life we love. What are you clearing space for in your life right now? Let me know in the comments below!
